Alex's House of Horrors

Local artist Alex Rain spends all year creating this Halloween experience for the community. They design and build the props, and yard walk alone, with a little help on the heavy lifting. Alex has a background in theater, visual arts, and writing. They use as much reclaimed material as possible, with a goal of saving it from the Iowa City landfill. The trail for the mini-attraction runs through the front and back yards. This year's additions include a scaled recreation of Iowa City's famous black angel and a sculpture of Medusa.

The walk includes lights, music, and effects. Only operating on select nights. During trick-or-treating hours on Halloween there is an additional mini-haunted house with actors. Alex is often performing as Stabby the client, and on some nights there is an additional volunteer performer.

During Iowa Cities truck-or-treating, the walk is expanded to an event with a haunted house, complete with volunteer actors. You are able to request actors stand and wave if you are looking for a full, jump scare experience. The haunted house is best experienced once it becomes dark and the entire event ends at the end of trick-or-treating hours
